Made a few changes by tilting my bathtub garden up higher at the drain end so that water can pond in the bottom of the tub, creating a kind of wicking system that needs far less water. Cut down some 20 litre plastic containers and drilled holes 4 or 5 cm above the base so that ponding can occur in the bottom of the containers. Just chucked a few handfuls of gravel in the base to help with drainage above the water level hole but I doubt that it'll be a problem without this addition. Old toilet pans are great because you have an instant ceramic water retaining wicking system.
