LFG Christmas Party at Sheldon

December 1, 2019 from 9am to 12pm
David and Catherine live on a beautiful 2.5 acres in Sheldon. Their land is mostly compacted clay, so they have had to find alternative methods to grow their veggies. They have used techniques such as hugelkultur, raised wicking beds and layered beds. They tend to stick to fairly basic vegetables that either they or their chooks will enjoy eating.Catherine has a collection of unusual fruit trees in pots, ready to move up on top of a mountain when they retire!Sorry, no dogs allowed. Our chooks…See More

LFG Annual Birthday Party at Tanah Merah

August 18, 2019 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm
... abundance :)That is how it feels at my place, these days.  Everything is sufficiently watered; the soil is full of organic matter and brimming with life; and the plants are flourishing.  This autumn/winter season has been wonderful for the garden with frequent rain and mild temps.  I admit that the summer was awful and so I let the garden go until the weather cooled down.  The main thing I have done since last year is to turn my messy piles of prunings into amazingly neat and useful rows of…See More

Satisfying day

Posted on August 3, 2014 at 15:00 2 Comments

Firstly, I tried out my homemade citrus cleaner; it smells wonderful and does a good job.  Thank you Roman and Jana for the recipe.  I also planted some seeds and documented what seed went where in my planting tray.  I am feeling very organised as I usually rely on my memory for this job!  Lastly I preserved some lemons as a birthday prezzie for a friend.  Thank goodness I had heaps of lemons to get the 2 cups of juice for the brine.  Anyway, it was a great way to use up surplus lemons and…

A visit to Toowoomba and meeting Jerry Coleby- Williams

Posted on September 22, 2013 at 20:30 0 Comments

This weekend we visited friends in Toowoomba and went to the Carnival of Flowers.  Walking through a pavilion, I noticed that non other than our local hero, Jerry Coleby-Williams, was about to give a free talk.  From a front row seat I enjoyed over an hour of Jerry's time as he spoke about his early years and the influence of his family on his love of gardening.  His family were role models, they taught him and they encouraged him.  Jerry asked that we do the same to the younger generations…

Weekend in the garden

Posted on March 25, 2013 at 10:32 4 Comments

I have had the most satisfying weekend working in my garden.  We have had a wire enclosure built so I now don't have to worry about the free range chooks & possums getting into the garden.  Last year our old carport and very delapidated chook run were taken down so we have recycled most of the stuff from that (except the wire and the reo which was used  used as supports).   So this weekend I moved one of our raised garden beds into the new enclosure and got it organised complete with…

G'day Mary, if you like since you have a small garden when the tree tomato produces you can have some seed. It grows 18 foot tall & lives for up to 3 years. Hope to see you at my garden event next sunday.
