website

We have a new website: http://www.logan-can.org.au/

THE BELOW IS NO LONGER RELEVANT (MAY 2014) WE ARE NO LONGER OPERATING BUT WOULD LOVE THAT TO CHANGE. SEE BELOW FOR OUR JOURNEY WITH LOGAN COUNCIL. DO PLS CHANGE OUR EXPERIENCE!!!

The Logan council community gardens policy has not yet surfaced from its travels through council but we'll keep you updated.

Initiatives to start community gardens have surfaced: Notably Whitemen street with Warren Goodlet and Elm Park, in its infancy, but looking good with Robert Daniels.

We have discovered that these type of community initiatives can be auspiced under Landshare if meeting certain criteria.

Logan Can services as a group where these type of initiatives can come for ideas on how to go about it and where to find grants and so.

Logan Can is auspiced by Laca (Logan & Albert Community Association).

logan Can is starting to put on community information films and information.

Ar the November meeting we had a demonstration of edible weeds by Merlin, biochar/ charcoal making (= long term nutrients) by David and an easy greenhouse in a bottle by Colin.

In one year, a lot has been achieved.

Vanessa there are community gardens in Logan you can get involved with.  The closest to you would be in Jimboomba.  Check out the events page as they have their official opening on 25 May.  Costa is going to be there!

Vanessa you are the most recent person who has attached themselves to this. LOGAN CAN is actually very inactive at the moment. The people that were active in it have been channelled into other individual activities because the Logan council was just too hard to meet with. My words, my interpretation. Do not take this general but it is echoed by Colin on Elm Park and you only need to scratch our valiant starter Kathy Faldt to get more sentiments. Kathy has tried to speak sense  to Logan Council for many years in many ways. Contact her to find a way if you need to. Other than that, I personally think this group is closed and inactive. I would love someone to disagree with me! Contact Kathy if you need anything or Colin Westwood. It has been a good ride. Thanks

That is ssooo sad. I have asked Tim Graham to let us know who in council needs to get that feedback. I'll let you know. G

Sadly, the Elm Park Community Garden project, is now defunct. The group, that mainly consisted of community minded neighbours, keen to see the refugee and disadvantaged who had no land on which to make a garden, decided that Logan Council requirements were far too stringent. In particular the demands that we become incorporated, were universally rejected. Therefore a decision was unanimously taken, to abandon the project and disband the group.
