Event Description

Join us again up at Bernies place up in Springbrook.

Welcome again to Selfhelp farm and beautiful Springbrook Mountain for the next group meeting on Sunday March 17.  It is always a fabulous day, and so much cooler too, when we visit!!!

We are delighted to have Mike Hall join us as our guest speaker.  Mike was Ranger in Charge of Springbrook National Park for 30 years.

Mike will be talking about the area's flora and fauna, Aboriginal history and local tucker.

The group will be able to "taste" some things like davidson plum (heaps at the moment), quandongs, wild spinach, finger limes ... whatever is in season.

Springbrook National Park has one of the most unbelievable biodiversities in Australia.  Mike will talk about the need to find a balance between conservation of unique and endangered areas side by side with the urban development we see in SEQ

Following Mike's session on the deck, we'd like to invite the group to the newly established Springbrook Men's Shed and Community Garden for lunch.  For just $7 (which goes towards supporting the community Mens Shed) per person you can enjoy our super special sausage sizzle which  includes many sausages, lashings of onion, salad, a smorgasbord of sauces, cold drinks and tea/coffee. If you send positive affirmations, Pauline may even bake some of her famous scones.

For those that feel able, Mike will then guide us to the Best of All Lookout. A short (300m), paved walk through relic beeches and dense rainforest through to outstanding views of the Mt Wollumbin volcano (Mt Warning), Byron Bay and Northern NSW, this walk is recognised as one of the best short National Park walks in Oz.

You can now arrive at Springbrook Mountain from the M1 highway from two directions.

Take Exit 69 from Nerang or take Exit 79 from Mudgeeraba.

Look forward to seeing you all again!

Arrive at 9:30am for the first cuppa and yak for a 10am start.

if you would like to car pool, let us know!

Please bring along:

- things to share: excess produce, seeds, seedlings, plant material
- a hat if it's fine
- a small folding chair
- a mug and plate

There will be a contribution box at the event and your contribution of between $3 and $5 per person will help Logan Food Gardeners' Inc. to cover its costs.
