We are so lucky to be able to visit Millen Farm and have the farmer, Arran Heideman show us around.
Millen Farm is a not for profit organisation in Samford Valley, 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD. The physical farm site is approximately 5 000 sq metres of leased land within the Samford Commons precinct within walking distance of Samford Village.
This is what Millen Farm have to say about their community operated organisation.
"Our aim is to be a catalyst for an expanding local food system in the region".
At its heart, Millen Farm is a community-owned sustainable enterprise that has been founded, established and managed by the community, for the community. We are a unique venture because we are creating a sustainable, alternative food system for you to be a part of, where the entire supply chain uses local processes and resources. The Farm is designed to support the production of locally grown organic fruit and vegetables.
Our tagline ‘Learn, Grow, Feast’ was born when considering the key elements of the farm:
Please bring along:
- things to share: excess produce, seeds, seedlings, plant material
- a plate of food to share for morning tea
- a hat if it's fine
- a small folding chair
- a mug and plate
There will be a contribution box at the event and your contribution of between $3 and $5 per person will help Logan Food Gardeners' Inc. to cover its costs.
Kids under supervision and partners are welcome.
Please RSVP to this event to let us know how many of you are coming.
