YOU are in for a treat this month with a visit to Ben and Jana's productive garden in Woodridge. The garden is full of food and brimming with vitality, even in the middle of a heatwave (that's when I saw it).
Ben & Jana Meldt are trained Community Health Educators with over 7 years experience sharing their passion for natural health and living.
They teach practical workshops on the topics of:
They have 2 small daughters and live in Woodridge where they grow almost all their own fresh greens and vegetables in a small bio-intensive organic garden.
The garden uses freely available local hay (mown grass) and tree mulch broken down in the garden to create fertile soil out of the heavy clay and rock base. A mixture of traditional vegetables and pacific island foods such as Ibika(Island Cabbage) and snake beans are grown to get the most out of the sub-tropical climate. Tropical fruit trees fill the surrounding borders and climbers such as Loofah and Passionfruit are used to create shade and maximise productivity.
Please bring along:
- things to share: excess produce, seeds, seedlings, plant material
- a plate of food to share for afternoon tea
- a hat if it's fine
- a small folding chair
- a mug and plate
There will be a contribution box at the event and your contribution of between $3 and $5 per person will help Logan Food Gardeners' Inc. to cover its costs.
Kids under supervision and partners are welcome.
Please RSVP to this event to let us know how many of you are coming.
