Event Description

... abundance :)

That is how it feels at my place, these days.  Everything is sufficiently watered; the soil is full of organic matter and brimming with life; and the plants are flourishing.  This autumn/winter season has been wonderful for the garden with frequent rain and mild temps.  I admit that the summer was awful and so I let the garden go until the weather cooled down.

The main thing I have done since last year is to turn my messy piles of prunings into amazingly neat and useful rows of composting material that runs across the contour.  These rows of branches and organic matter are breaking down and providing nourishment to the soil and plants.  I have placed some of these rows on the down-hill side of the existing  beds to shade them from the sun and provide constant nourishment to the  bed.  It is a bit tricky to explain, but you will get it when you see it :)

I have recently worked out some fantastic simple family-friendly recipes for greens and other from the garden.  I will give you a quick cooking-demo using whatever I have from the garden.  It is such a good way to cook greens that even my daughter said, "Mum can you make this again please".  These are words that every Mum wants to hear when they cook something healthy.

Another huge improvement I have made recently is to put my washing machine water into my compost bins (to keep them moist) and to add about 250L of coffee grounds per week to the compost (don't worry I didn't drink all that - it came from a cafe).  The worms absolutely love it and are breeding up and filling the compost with their wiggly bodies.

If you haven't seen my place before you are going to love it, but if you have, you will know that there is always something new to see.

I hope you can make it.
