Marylin is welcoming us to her garden in July.
She lives on a battlexe or easement block so she doesn't have a front yard and can use her full quarter acre for foraging.
"I’m not passionate about any particular style of gardening but have leaned heavily towards practical permaculture since reading Bill Mollison's first book in the 1970s. The garden is roughly divided into two zones, orchard and veggies, but my only livestock is a top bar beehive and a collection of visiting wild critters. I’ve lived here for 30 years, but a series of unfortunate incidents involving tree loppers meant most of the garden has been redone in the last couple of years so I have plants in various stages of growth or collapse from 3 weeks to 30 years. Lots of living compost!"
On a practical level, my block is quite sloped but is mostly accessible by wheelie walker with care or help.
Marylin describes herself as "an increasingly decrepit ageing slob" and will talk about how to make gardening easier. Everything from using psychology on yourself, choice of tools, making nature work for not against you, strategies for reducing frustration etc.
There is limited parking on the block but best reserved for those with mobility issues or delivering equipment. There is plenty of flat parking beside the school on Hailer Street, with a short walk up the hill.
Please bring along:
- things to share: excess produce, seeds, seedlings, plant material
- a plate of food to share for afternoon tea
- a hat if it's fine
- a small folding chair
- a mug and plate
There will be a contribution box at the event and your contribution of between $3 and $5 per person will help Logan Food Gardeners' Inc. to cover its costs.
Kids under supervision and partners are welcome.
Please RSVP to this event to let us know how many of you are coming.
