You will know if you have seen Lyn's place before, that it is really impressive and worth seeing. Amazingly it seems to get better every year, so it is worth coming even if you have seen it before. Here is what she has to say about it:
I love my garden so much. I love the food I harvest and feed to my family and give to my friends. I love that I can create something of value for little or no money. I love that my garden and my produce inspires other people to grow themselves. I love that my garden brings me and all the adults and children that visit it so much joy. Each year the harvest is bigger, the plants are greener and I find new types of plants that love our climate and reward us with abundance. I live in paradise that just keeps getting better.
I am very excited at the moment because we are installing an irrigation system that will run off rain water, supplemented by bore water. We hired a trench digger for the pipework and while we had it, we dug a few more trenches across the contour. These will allow rain water to soak into the ground, rather than running down the hill and off the property. Our intention is to fill these with forest mulch, but at the moment it looks like "The Digging-est Dog" has been through the place.
The greatest successes I am have had recently are Kadu, Ethiopian cabbage, dragon fruit, green beans, tamarillo, and limes. I am also growing a new melon called Chilacayote. It has huge watermelon-sized (and looking) fruit on it, so I am pretty keen to try that when it is ready.
My mulberry jam stash has run out, so I better be off now and make a new batch from frozen berries. Hope to see you in August.
Please bring along:
- things to share: excess produce, seeds, seedlings, plant material
